Here’s a step-by-step guide to winterizing your pool dome cover so it stays protected and ready for next season:

Step-by-Step Guide to Winterizing Your Pool Dome Cover

Step 1: Clean the Pool Area

  • Skim the pool to remove leaves, debris, pool dome cover for winter and dirt.

  • Brush the walls and vacuum the pool floor.

  • Make sure no debris is left inside the dome before closing.

Step 2: Balance Pool Water Chemistry

  • Test and adjust water chemistry:

    • pH: 7.2 – 7.6

    • Alkalinity: 80 – 120 ppm

    • Calcium hardness: 200 – 400 ppm

  • Shock the pool with chlorine to prevent algae growth.

  • Add a winter algaecide or pool closing chemicals.

Step 3: Lower the Water Level

  • Drain the water to about 4–6 inches below the skimmer line (unless your dome system allows full-level winterization).

  • This prevents freezing damage to the skimmer and plumbing.

Step 4: Drain and Protect Equipment

  • Disconnect, drain, and store the pump, filter, heater, retractable pool enclosure and chlorinator (if detachable).

  • Blow out water from plumbing lines and plug them.

  • Add pool-safe antifreeze if needed for your region.

Step 5: Clean the Dome Cover

  • Rinse the dome fabric with mild soap and water.

  • Allow it to dry completely to prevent mildew.

  • Inspect for small tears and patch them before winter.

Step 6: Secure the Dome Structure

  • Remove excess air pressure from inflatable domes (if required).

  • For rigid-frame domes, check bolts, anchors, and straps.

  • Ensure all seams and connections are tight against wind and snow.

Step 7: Cover and Protect

  • Place a protective winter pool cover beneath the dome if recommended.

  • Remove ladders, diving boards, or accessories that could tear the cover.

  • Store any detachable dome panels or support parts in a dry place.

Step 8: Final Safety Check

  • Inspect the dome perimeter to ensure there are no gaps for aquashield pool enclosure wind or snow entry.

  • Confirm all water lines are winterized.

  • Lock or secure the dome to prevent unauthorized access.
