India’s Warehouse Expansion Is Reshaping Solid Cushion Tire Demand

Warehouses accounted for 48% of solid cushion tire unit sales in 2025, according to the study. This position reflects the suitability of solid tires for indoor environments where forklifts and related equipment operate continuously on relatively smooth flooring.

India’s growing warehousing, manufacturing, and logistics infrastructure is increasing the deployment of forklifts and other material-handling equipment. Solid cushion tires are designed for these operating environments, where vehicles frequently move across smooth indoor surfaces, carry substantial loads, and perform repeated acceleration, braking, and turning cycles. Their puncture-resistant construction makes them particularly relevant to intensive warehouse operations.

The India solid cushion tire industry report estimates that the segment was valued at USD 52 million in 2025 and is projected to reach USD 109 million by 2032, reflecting a 9.21% CAGR during 2026–2032. The study also identifies warehouses as the largest deployment segment and 1–5T forklifts as the leading vehicle platform based on units sold.

Warehousing Is Creating a Larger Equipment Base

India’s logistics ecosystem is becoming increasingly integrated across warehousing, road transportation, rail, ports, air freight, and other services. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade identifies these activities as interconnected parts of the national logistics sector, with infrastructure investment and expanding industrial and e-commerce activity increasing the requirement for efficient supply-chain systems.

1–5T Forklifts Remain Central to Demand

The 1–5T forklift category represented 85% of solid cushion tire unit sales in 2025. This capacity range is relevant across warehouses, manufacturing facilities, third-party logistics operations, distribution centers, and other industrial environments. Because these forklifts often operate through repetitive duty cycles, tire durability, stability, and resistance to punctures can influence equipment availability and maintenance requirements.

Solid cushion tires differ from pneumatic tires because they use a solid rubber structure rather than an air-filled chamber. This construction makes them less vulnerable to punctures and pressure loss. However, their application is most suitable where operating conditions, floor surfaces, load requirements, and equipment design support the characteristics of solid tires.

Freight Infrastructure Supports Warehouse Activity

India’s freight infrastructure is also strengthening the connection between industrial production, distribution centers, and storage facilities. As of March 2025, 2,741 route kilometres, representing 96.4% of the 2,843-kilometre Dedicated Freight Corridor network, had been commissioned and made operational. The corridors are intended to support faster freight movement and improve connectivity with industrial and logistics locations.

The expansion of freight corridors can indirectly influence material-handling requirements by increasing the volume and organization of goods moving through logistics hubs. Warehouses, freight terminals, and distribution centers require equipment capable of moving palletized and packaged goods between storage areas and transport interfaces. This creates an operating environment in which industrial tires become closely connected with warehouse utilization.

Sustainability Is Influencing Tire Materials

Sustainability is becoming another consideration for tire manufacturers as waste management regulations encourage more formal recycling practices. India’s Extended Producer Responsibility framework places responsibilities on producers for environmentally sound management of waste tires and requires relevant producers, recyclers, and retreaders to register through the centralized system. The CPCB waste-tyre EPR framework provides regulatory guidance on these responsibilities.

For solid cushion tire production, greater availability of reclaimed rubber, crumb rubber, and other recovered materials can support experimentation with alternative material inputs. The shift toward recycled compounds is relevant because industrial tire products must maintain durability and load-bearing characteristics while manufacturers respond to increasing expectations around resource efficiency and waste reduction.

Initial Cost Remains a Consideration

Despite their operational characteristics, solid cushion tires can involve a higher upfront purchase cost than pneumatic alternatives. The study identifies this price difference as a significant challenge, particularly for smaller warehouses and cost-sensitive operators. The higher initial expenditure can influence procurement decisions even when solid tires may provide advantages in applications where puncture-related downtime is a concern.

The economic assessment therefore depends on operating conditions rather than purchase price alone. Facilities with intensive forklift utilization may place greater emphasis on durability and reduced tire-related interruptions, whereas lower-utilization operators may prioritize initial acquisition costs. This difference can create varied adoption patterns across warehouses, factories, rental fleets, airports, and logistics facilities.

Delhi NCR Leads Regional Demand

Delhi NCR currently represents the leading regional demand center identified in the study. Its concentration of warehousing, manufacturing-support activities, distribution facilities, e-commerce operations, and logistics providers creates a substantial installed base of material-handling equipment. Such facilities require tires capable of supporting frequent indoor vehicle movement and repeated handling cycles.

Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Rajasthan also represent important demand areas because of their industrial and logistics ecosystems. The study expects Tamil Nadu to emerge as the fastest-growing regional segment during the forecast period, indicating that demand is gradually extending beyond the established concentration in northern India.

Logistics Modernization Shapes the Outlook

India’s continued investment in multimodal logistics, organized warehousing, and freight infrastructure is closely connected with the deployment of material-handling equipment. As storage and distribution facilities become more structured, forklifts and other industrial vehicles are increasingly integrated into daily operations. This creates a direct operating base for solid cushion tires designed for indoor and controlled industrial environments.

The outlook for solid cushion tires therefore depends on the pace of warehouse development, forklift utilization, logistics modernization, and industrial activity. At the same time, upfront cost and sustainability requirements will remain important considerations. The interaction between equipment intensity, warehouse expansion, and tire durability is likely to remain central to how demand develops across India through the forecast period.
