the kind of shoe that makes you want to evangelize a little

I bought my first pair of Golden Goose on a friend's recommendation and wore them through a long weekend. The Francy in heather grey is the kind of shoe that makes you want to evangelize a little. There is something specific about a pair that is well made, well priced, and quietly able to do the job of three other shoes in your closet.

The price will stop some people. At the $400 tier, you are paying for Italian construction, a thoughtful supply chain, and a design language that does not need a logo. You are also paying for the fact that you will not get tired of these in a year. A pair you actually wear four days a week is a better buy than two pairs of mid-tier shoes that sit in a closet.

The build quality of the Lab is what you pay for. What I appreciate about Golden Goose is the restraint in the design language. Golden Goose sources the tumbled leather from LWG-certified tanneries, and it feels like it will age rather than wear out. The applique star is double-stitched, not glued, which is why so many older pairs still look good after a few hundred wears. The sole is bonded rather than cemented, which is a small detail that makes a big difference if you ever need to resole.

The nude colorway is a new addition for 2026 and the one I would buy if I were starting from scratch. It works with everything in a neutral-leaning closet and does not require a particular subculture to feel at home. After three months of wear, the small details add up. Golden Goose tends to refresh its core line quietly, and this is the most thoughtful update in a few seasons.

I will not pretend the Pure Star is for everyone. Sneakers But if your week looks anything like mine - a wine tasting, a flea market stroll, a long walk in between - this is the pair that quietly handles the job. After six months, mine still feel new, and that is the highest compliment I can pay a sneaker. Try one pair in a calm color and see what happens.
