The CBT 1 (Computer Based Test – Stage 1) is a screening  RRB NTPC Syllabus test that includes three main sections: General Awareness, Mathematics, and General Intelligence & Reasoning. Each section carries equal weightage of 30 marks, making a total of 100 marks. The duration of the exam is 90 minutes, with a negative marking of 1/3rd for every incorrect answer. In the General Awareness section, candidates must prepare topics such as current events of national and international importance, Indian history and culture, Indian polity and constitution, geography, economics, and general science. Additionally, awareness about railways and transport, awards and honors, books and authors, and important government schemes are often tested. Once candidates clear CBT 1, they move on to CBT 2 (Stage 2) which is comparatively more in-depth and carries more weight. CBT 2 consists of three sections: General Awareness (50 marks), Mathematics (35 marks), and General Intelligence & Reasoning (35 marks), making a total of 120 marks with a duration of 90 minutes. The syllabus content remains similar to CBT 1 but the difficulty level increases. In General Awareness, candidates need a deeper understanding of static GK and current affairs, especially related to Indian railways and major national and international developments. The Mathematics section for CBT 2 includes advanced arithmetic, algebra, geometry, mensuration, trigonometry, and data interpretation. The questions demand quicker calculations and better problem-solving efficiency. General Intelligence & Reasoning in CBT 2 expects candidates to handle higher-order reasoning questions, complex puzzles, seating arrangements, input-output, and decision-making scenarios.

Both CBT 1 and CBT 2 require consistent practice and mock tests to improve speed and accuracy. Candidates are advised to follow NCERT books for basics and use competitive exam guides like Lucent’s GK and R.S. Aggarwal’s Quantitative Aptitude for a solid preparation foundation. Since both stages are objective in nature and conducted online, familiarity with computer-based testing environments is also essential. Preparation should be supplemented with regular revision and solving previous year papers to understand the exam pattern and frequently asked topics.
