Is this one of Phantasy Star Online 2 Meseta the reasons that the Western servers are somewhat different from the Japanese servers? So you can roll out the later episodes in the right rate, rather than dump all of the Western players onto the same servers as players in Asia, who've experienced all that content already?
It is a little bit of both. The reason why we place it on a different server for the U.S. launch was supposed to control the rolling from the stories and due to host capacity. The ease of play is one of the selling points of this game, and also the space of these servers to the gamers influences latency, so we knew we wanted to have the servers physically closer to our gamers from North America. And although there are hardcore fans [who'll play regularly and explore all of the articles ] from the North American area, there are still many who aren't familiar with the franchise, and we didn't feel it would be fair to launch eight decades' worth of content at the same time. So it is a little bit of both.As you state, PSO 2 did come out eight years before, and people are wondering why it took so long between the Western launch and the Western release. Can it have to do with the microtransaction system and in-game buys being very different for Japan?
Did that make a great deal of work for the development team?
It wasn't a great deal of work, but the group was amazed by how beautiful the improvements made the game seem. Can it be useful to be able to develop and optimize for a set platform like Xbox One, instead of the myriad permutations that gaming PCs could present? For the Japanese version it was a multiplatform release, on PC and PS4, therefore PSO 2 was optimized to provide the best results irrespective of which stage you're playing on. The focus was on the way to buy PSO2 Meseta bring out the advantages of the platform.
