"Ring, ring, ring..." The playground of Xincheng Experimental School in Bengbu city, Anhui province comes to life as the bell rings for recess. Children have come outside, quickly team up activities, or swinging bats, flexible footwork, or jumping rubber bands, up and down... Under the warm spring sun, the students are happy and enjoy the health and happiness brought by sports activities. "We insist on healthy school construction, using good recess time, so that children can go outdoors and look far. It not only helps students build up their bodies, but also reduces visual fatigue to prevent childrens eyeglasses." New City experimental school principal Gu Qingyue said.

The reasons for the early and high incidence of myopia in children and adolescents are very complicated, mainly including schoolwork pressure, living habits and other factors. However, there is one reason that cannot be ignored - insufficient time for outdoor activities and sports activities during the day, and insufficient rest and relaxation protection.

The prevention of myopia by outdoor activities is mainly related to dopamine. Zou Haidong, director of the Shanghai Eye Disease Prevention and Control Center, said that higher outdoor light levels will promote the release of more dopamine in the eyes, delaying the growth of the eye axis, and thus play a role in preventing myopia. In addition, outdoor strong light exposure shrinks the pupil, deepens the depth of field, and reduces blurring, which will also play a role in inhibiting myopia.

China has introduced a number of policies and measures to strengthen students' outdoor activities. In 2021, the National Health Plan (2021-2025) issued by The State Council proposed to implement sports activity promotion plans for young people, promote the youth sports "health package" project, and carry out sports intervention aimed at problems such as myopia among young people. In 2023, the "Comprehensive Public Health Intervention Technical Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Myopia in Children and Adolescents" (hereinafter referred to as the "Guidelines") issued by the National CDC mentioned that increasing outdoor activities and sports activities during the day is the main starting point to promote the prevention and control of common diseases such as myopia among students. In March this year, the Ministry of Education and other four departments jointly deployed the national myopia prevention and control publicity and education activities, requiring primary and secondary schools to arrange for students to go out of the classroom during recess and relax, and uniformly arrange 30 minutes of sports activities during recess every day.

The school is the main front of student activities. In addition to increasing the time for physical exercise, primary and secondary schools around the country have also come up with many innovative measures, such as regulating daily school behavior, improving classroom supporting hardware, guiding love eye publicity and education, etc., focusing on cultivating children's love eye habits, and jointly saying "no" to the campus "small glasses".

In Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province, Baiguan Primary School in Shangyu District combined the traditional folk game of "catching dice" to create "Crystal eye" eye exercises to help students move their eyes in a multi-turn way and prevent myopia through interactive and cooperative games. In Tonghua, Jilin Province, Meihekou Second Experimental Middle School pays attention to the teaching and living environment of the school, installing soft eye protection lights according to the personalized design drawings of the classroom size to ensure that every corner of the light can meet the standard. In Beijing, Chaoyang District Experimental Primary School has established a close cooperative relationship with the ophthalmic expert team of relevant hospitals, inviting experts into the campus every semester to carry out lectures and publicity, free consultation, and experts formulate anti-proximity programs for children according to the examination results to effectively protect the visual health of students.
