Two ministries will introduce specific measures to prevent and control "small glasses"

In order to prevent and control youth myopia, the Ministry of Education, together with the National Health Commission and other relevant departments, has begun to implement a number of policies. At the beginning of this month, the two ministries played a "combination of blows" and jointly drafted the "Implementation Plan for Comprehensive Prevention and Control of Myopia in children and Adolescents (Draft for Comments)" to solicit public opinions. At present, the consultation phase has ended, and the program will be officially issued and implemented in the near future. And parents need to find the right eyeglass mart for children to buy their eyeglassed.

The implementation plan not only clarifies the responsibilities of families, schools and health institutions, but also puts forward a series of specific measures. For example, actively guide children to outdoor activities or physical exercise, no written homework in the first and second grades of primary school, the completion time of written homework in the third to sixth grades shall not exceed 60 minutes, and strictly control the number of school examinations in the compulsory education stage.

It is worth noting that the draft also specifically mentions that children and adolescents' physical and mental health and schoolwork load should be included in the national compulsory education quality monitoring and evaluation system, and local governments and schools that have seen children's physical health levels decline for three consecutive years will be held accountable according to law and regulations.

Heavy schoolwork, addicted to electronic devices' eyesight killer '

Data show that the proportion of primary school myopia is 45.7%, the proportion of junior high school myopia is 74.4%, and to high school, this figure is a straight line to 83.3%, while the proportion of college students myopia is even higher, reaching 87.7%, and the prevalence of myopia is still increasing year by year.

Previously, the Beijing Center for Disease Control and Prevention selected 12,000 primary and middle school students and their parents aged 6 to 18 years to conduct a questionnaire survey on students' eye use environment, eye use behavior, and vision care-related behaviors. The results showed that 78.96% of the students in Beijing were myopic, and 7.09% were highly myopic. The report also shows that heavy schoolwork and addiction to electronic products have become the two main "killers" of teenagers' eyesight.

Visual impairment adds billions of dollars to the social and economic costs

The problem of myopia still affects the whole society. According to the "National Visual Health Report" white paper estimates that in 2012 alone, all kinds of visual defects caused by the social and economic cost of about 680 billion yuan. If the nearsighted population continues to increase, in aerospace, precision manufacturing, military and other fields, the workforce that meets the vision requirements will face a huge gap.

Experts recommend having an eye examination every six months

Experts suggest that children and adolescents should go to a regular hospital every six months to do an eye and vision examination, myopia and abnormalities should be timely manual intervention and correction, so as to avoid the deepening of myopia degree.
