Collections agencies

Legal advice about debt collection reporting

Need some advice. The situation - I moved to a new apartment, and everything seemed fine until recently when I got a letter in the mail. Turns out, I've been wrongfully sent to collections for a debt I never knew existed!

I get this random call from a collections agency saying I owe a hefty sum for an unpaid medical bill. The thing is, I've never been to that particular hospital or had any procedures done there.

I called the collections agency to sort things out, explaining that they must have made a mistake. But, guess what? They were not very helpful and insisted I pay up or face consequences. Now, I'm left scratching my head, wondering what to do if you are wrongfully sent to collections.

I've read about disputing the debt, but how exactly do I go about doing that? Has anyone been through something similar, and if so, what steps did you take to clear your name? Worrying about my credit score taking a hit for something that's not even my fault.

I appreciate any tips or insights you can provide. Thanks a bunch!
